Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 will be the year of the first all-digital Sitecore Symposium. Unfortunately we won’t be able to travel to Chicago this year, the location where Sitecore Symposium 2020 was to be held, but this year we have to do it completely remotely.

As a long-time Sitecore MVP, I’ve almost been attending all symposiums that have been held, hell yeah, I’ve been attending since it was called Dreamcore. This year I wouldn’t want to miss it for the world and I think we will all get more bang for our buck, due to the nature of being able to watch way more sessions with the full access pass. The only thing I’m so missing (and I guess for me that’s the biggest reason for coming to a Sitecore Symposium) is meeting up with my peers in real-life. Connecting and interacting during Symposiums is what’s the most important thing for me. I can’t wait to meet you all back in 2021.

Anyways, this blogpost is not about me missing you, but I wanted to share some of the sessions that I think you should 100% watch on Day 1.

This blogpost is part of the Sitecore Symposium 2020 series:

Tuesday October 27th, 2020

General session: Sitecore business update with CEO Steve Tzikakis – Steve Tzikakis (CEO, Sitecore)

Even though this is not a Developer audience session, I just wanted to mention this one. I can’t wait for the new CEO to speak on how he envisions the SaaS future of Sitecore. Bring it on Steve!

Premium general session: The Road to Product Innovation – Desta Price (EVP Product Management, Sitecore) & Tom De Ridder (Chief Technology Officer, Sitecore)

In this highly informative keynote, Sitecore Executive VP of Product Management Desta Price and CTO Tom De Ridder will provide updates on the latest and upcoming product releases from Sitecore, as well as provide a glimpse into our long-term vision focused on Sitecore’s industry leading innovation.

Headless Sitecore Commerce with Sitecore JSS – Daria Larionova (Senior Software Engineer, EPAM) & Tony Mamedbekov (Solution Architect, EPAM)

COVID-19 has taught retailers the importance of implementing e-commerce solutions with accelerated time-to-market. Attendees of this session will learn about EPAM’s Headless Sitecore Commerce Accelerator and how easily you can get started with Sitecore JSS and Sitecore Commerce. We will discuss how you can leverage source code that saves weeks of development time, enable front-end JavaScript developers to develop and adjust website features quickly and independently from back-end developers, and create seamless digital experiences across multiple touchpoints and devices.

Serialize your way to success – Charlie Turano (Product Manager, Sitecore)

Learn how to use Sitecore 10’s new serialization features to drive reliable deployments and make developers happy.

Real-time personalization in a true omnichannel world using JSS and Azure – Bas Lijten (Principal Architect, Achmea)

I’ve seen this session at the beginning of 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic, at a SUGNL meetup, but I highly recommend you to watch it. Find out how we integrated a centralized decision-making engine with Sitecore. In a true omnichannel scenario, an event on another channel such as a call center can lead to an immediate personalization event on Sitecore. In an out-of-the-box scenario, this is not possible. Learn how we integrated JSS, personalization rules, Azure SignalR, Azure Functions and xConnect to solve this is in a fairly easy way. With this approach, Sitecore can be empowered to its fullest.

Containers & AKS: Taking Sitecore 10 to the next level – Bart Plasmeijer (Senior Software Architect, Sitecore) & Rob Earlam (Technical Evangelist, Sitecore)

This session will focus on the container functionality introduced in Sitecore 10. Join us to take a look at this new world of running Sitecore in Containers from development through to production in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). This approach empowers everyone from developers to IT, making sure you realize the most value possible from your Sitecore experience.

Content as a Service: A preview – Alistair Deneys (System Architect, Sitecore) & Andy Cohen (System Architect, Sitecore)

The upcoming Content as a Service (CaaS) features build on the strengths of Content Hub, allowing customers to leverage their data (assets, content, products, etc.) as on-demand atomic content to power experiences built for any digital channel. Join System Architects from Sitecore, Andy Cohen and Alistair Deneys, as they explore these upcoming features, showing how to publish to the delivery platform and use the preview and delivery APIs from custom sites and services.

Insufficient facts always invite danger, Captain! – Neil Killen (Technical Director, Valtech)

While Docker has made a significant impact in the Sitecore developer community recently, the ability for us to monitor the performance of these newly containerized environments is essential. In this session, Valtech’s Neil Killen will explore industry-standard tools and techniques to demonstrate how you can implement a containerized monitoring platform. See how this approach enables you to collect, visualize and define alerts, notifying you of any dangerous performance metric levels.

And that’s it for Day 1 of Sitecore Symposium 2020 in terms of Developer sessions I think are a must-watch!
