Sitecore configuration moved in Sitecore 8.1

Hi there,

Ever ran into the following error “Cannot read configuration file because it exceeds the maximum file size” with Sitecore? Well, with the new version of Sitecore: Sitecore 8.1, you probably won’t run into this problem anymore.

On August 27 2015, all the Sitecore MVP’s got heir hands on the upcoming release of Sitecore and today on October 20th 2015 Sitecore 8.1 was finally released.

In this small blogpost a note on that Sitecore made some changes to where their config section resides:

The problem was that the entire Sitecore section:

was in the default web.config. Now by default the size was already 240KB, which only allowed for a growth of 10KB in size. In Sitecore 8.1 the entire Sitecore section was removed from the web.config and was moved to a Sitecore.config file in the App_Config folder.

There’s an excellent and more thorough post here by Sitecore MVP Himadri Chakrabarti on how to circumvent this issue in the older Sitecore versions, prior to Sitecore 8.1.

That’s it, just some small adjustment in Sitecore 8.1 that can truly save some frustrating moments.
